Today, Wednesday, 20th January, 2020, Donald Trump’s exited the White House as the 45th American president.
Donald Trump was defeated by Joe Biden in the presidential election which was held on November 3, 2020, with an overwhelming majority of the electoral college votes. He rejected the result of the election which was certified by both the courts and the U.S. congress. Unfortunately, all his efforts to upturn the result proved abortive.
For 3 months he continued to fight the outcome of the election leading to the riots that took place on January 6th. Today was the last day. So he had to leave for the new president to take over.
In his farewell speech, he told the gathering, “I just want to say goodbye,” calling his time in office “the honor of a lifetime.”
He first thanked his wife, first lady Melania Trump and his family, along with Vice President Mike Pence and his family, his chief of staff Mark Meadows, his Cabinet, administration staffers and the United States Secret Service. Finally, he thanked the American people.
Today too, Biden and his Vice, Kamala Harris were sworn in as the 46th president of the United States of America, but without his predecessor in attendance choosing to depart the white house Immediately after his farewell speech.
Biden and his Vice Kamala Harris took their oaths of office at the very spot where pro-Trump rioters clashed with police two weeks ago before storming Congress in a deadly insurrection.
Because of Covid-19 pandemic, people were restricted from attending the swearing-in. Hence, the unprecedented sight of an empty National Mall on Inauguration Day.
Trump would probably be at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida when Biden, a 78-years old former vice president, was sworn in at noon at the U.S. Capitol’s western front.
TRUMP’S FATE AFTERWARDS
Trump is probably going to face a lot of legal challenges now that he has left office.
The fear of these challenges is speculated to be among the reasons why he didnt want to accept defeat.
His phone call to the Georgia’s secretary of state urging him to “find” votes and his speech encouraging his crowd to “show strength” in their march to the Capitol may lead to his impeachment by the U.S. senate.
There are also New York state investigations into his finances and multiple defamation lawsuits related to sexual assault accusations by women.
There are also allegations of insurance and tax fraud.
A conviction in the Senate impeachment trial would limit his future political activities and strip him of pension, and some benefits granted to ex-presidents.
Islamic Republic of Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani has dubbed outgoing US President, Donald Trump as a tyrant, after Trump released a farewell speech hours before Joe Biden takes over as president of the United States.
Trump in his 4 years in power dealt with the Iranian government in many ways.
Trump ended the multilateral nuclear deal in 2018, sending the nation into economic hardship and blocking the Islamic Nation’s ability to conduct business with other nations.
Biden has expressed a desire to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement, telling CNN last year that Trump had “recklessly tossed away a policy that was working to keep America safe and replaced it with one that has worsened the threat.”
In the new president’s words in September 2020, “I will offer Tehran a credible path back to diplomacy”.
If Iran returns to strict compliance with the nuclear deal, the United States would rejoin the agreement as a starting point for follow-on negotiations.”
THE PERSEVERANCE OF BIDEN.
Biden is 78 years, yet he persevered to run for presidency.
Someone in his age might think he is old and so people will not vote for him. But he did not look down on himself. He persevered. He pushed on till victory was assured.
In the world we live in, there are all kinds of problems, frustrations and difficulties.
That’s just life. So you must remain steadfast and persevere like Biden did.
In other words, the key word there is “Never give up!” No matter what’s going on in your life. Even when friends, colleagues and the crowd desert you and give up on you .
Do not give up on your self either. Let the passion and success drive you forward.
The victory is in refusing to quit.
Biden never gave up.
Keep in mind that in the heat of your struggles, the Holy Spirit is probably doing His greatest work for you
He will lead us through anything if you’ll just hang in there and follow Him. This means being diligent in prayer, relentless in your resolve, unwavering in faith, and determined to stand firmly on God’s Word and His promises to us.
Yes, life can be hard sometimes.
But, also know that God will help you if we remain steadfast.
Never get tired of doing what is good.
At just the right time you will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up”
I urge you today, Persevere in your walk with God, even when it’s hard.
Stay focused on Him, and it will all pay off when you enter the victory He has for you.
