THE PENTECOST SUNDAY

Yesterday, Sunday 23rd May, 2021 was the Pentecost Sunday. A day set aside by Christians especially Catholics to celebrate the decent of the Holy Spirit. It comes ten days after ascension.

In preparation for this, the faithfuls are to have a one week praying and fasting, so as to be fit to receive the Holy Spirit.

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

The Holy Spirit is a person and a God too. The third person of the blessed Trinity. He is Lord of life. He helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us. He gives you courage to work.

THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN

1.) He helps us to pray. (C.f Romans 8:26).
You cannot pray very well if you don’t have the Holy Spirit in you.
When you are not able to pray very well, it means you are not in touch with the holy Spirit.

2.) He helps us to learn the Faith. ( Math 5,6,7 and John 14,15,16,17)
To show the importance of the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, ” l need to go back to my father. If not, the Advocate, the Holy Spirit will not come.
When He comes, He will teach you all things (John 14:16).
You cannot know God if you don’t have the Holy Spirit.
How well do you know your faith, God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit?

3.) He guides us to live the Christian Life very well. (C.f Galatians 15:16-25).
We have two ways of living;- living according to the Spirit (Spiritually minded) and living according to the flesh (Carnally minded).

• What does it mean to live according to the Flesh? It shows itself in Immorality, impurity, Anger, Envy, Jealousy, drunkenness, ldolatry, filthy and indecent actions, witchcraft, Fighting, etc.
  Those who do such things will not enter the Kingdom of God.
• But living according to the Spirit is having the fruits of the Spirit which are love, patience, Joy, kindness, self control, Gentleness, humility, faithfulness, Goodness. There is no law again such things.
  And those who live such lives will inherit the kingdom of God.

But God said that, If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal (1 Corinthians 13:1).

4.) He leads us to Reconciliation to one another. (John 20:23)
Then he breathed in them and said, ,”Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive people’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are retained. (Vs. 22-23).
-Are you holding any grudge? Pray for the Spirit to let go.

5.) He Guides us so that we can propagate the faith.
Do not keep the Holy Spirit all to your spirit. You are to use it and share it through preaching the word of God.
Apostle Peter in the Bible did that and the end, he won 3,000 person’s.
Everyone is mandated to preacher the word of God.
